new project

Anybody who has ever been pregnant knows that the worst part of it is the clothes. The clothes are TERRIBLE! The shirts aren't so bad really, but those pants are nasty. Maternity clothing manufacturers try to make newer and better things, and there are a few different options - pants worn under the belly, pants with the huge elastic bands that wrap around your midsection and torso, the adjustable inside strap, etc. But when you really get thinking about it, these all SUCK!

Do you want to know why? Because no matter what style you have, or how loose or tight you buy them, they fall down. Watch any pregnant woman for a short while, and note how often she's tugging her pants back up. If I could find myself a pair of denim short overalls I'd buy them, current style be darned.

I got to thinking that a nice maternity sundress would really be the way to go. Being that I am thrifty (or cheap) I really don't want to spend a fortune on a maternity summer wardrobe, especially since in three months I'll be done with all this pregnancy nonsense. The next best solution? Make one! Sounds like a good idea right? Except for the fact that I don't sew, the sewing machine actually intimidates me, and I haven't made anything since high school I think I should be okay. Today I went to Wal*Mart and bought two patterns (each pack has 3 or 4 variations in it) and two different fabrics. See my optimism shine? If I really thought I couldn't do it I'd have just bought one bolt of fabric, but noooo, I have to assume that I'll make the greatest tent dress ever, and will be eager to start a second one right away. Ha. I figure if all else fails I could call up my MIL. She's good at this stuff. In the meantime, I'm going to give it a go myself. I've even started - I brought the material in from the van. It's now sitting in the shopping bag actually in the house. Take that you doubters!

Whether or not I take pictures will let you know how well the whole endeavor turns out!

Wouldn't it be cool if it actually worked?

I'm told all the time by Jeff's family that it isn't all that hard. Although I don't believe them. I think they're trying to trick me again. But, I'm sure you'll be just fine, it isn't that hard.

i wish you well...it would be very cool if it worked. Question: Isn't Steven good at sewing, seriously??

re: paying for chicken...Yes,i would, if not my conscience would get to me. Quinn and I have encountered this several times on smaller items, we always point it out to the cashiers. I think it would be more tempting not to on a higher priced item, but none the less I would. :)

Steven hemmed a couple of baby blankets, nothing more complicated than that. I tried to get him to help me last night but instead he went out to mow grass. Now if only we could find a bailer . . .

Note: Certain members of Jeff's family could whip up a wedding dress on a commercial break, so don't listen to them!
