one last taste of jezebel

"Why Jezebel? Why did you run if you love me as you say?"

"It is because I love you that I had to leave you - and still must." She looked away, staring at her feet miserably, but the duke would have none of it. He lifted her chin with one forefinger, waiting until her shimmering sapphire eyes reluctantly met his own luminous aquamarine stare.

"What nonsense is this, Jezebel? Why leave now, when we have just found each other?"

"Because my love is cursed!" she cried suddenly, unable to keep the truth inside any longer. "Don't you understand? What I feel for you is madness! It is too strong, too pure and deep to be aught else. It will destroy us both!" She looked up at him, aching with sorrow.

But Rafe simply laughed. "If your love is mad, my sweet, then so is mine, for I assure you what I feel is no less powerful. But I have a cure for it, my love, one that does not require our separation."

"You - you do?" she quavered. Oh, how she wanted to believe . . .

"Yes, sweetheart. I do. It is perfectly logical, I'll warrant. If our love is mad, then we shall simply be lunatics together."

*************************

I once read a romance with so much of him lifting her chin with his finger that it became annoying by the end of chapter 1. The entire book, he gently lifted her chin to face him. If a guy did that to me it would drive me nuts. There's something quite condescending about that.

And again, doesn't anyone just have blue eyes anymore? I told Steven about the sapphire/aquamarine thing and he said "Oh, so they both have blue eyes." I laughed.

With all this drama in your books, no need for you to watch General Hospital eh?? That show is equally as humorous as your book..hahahahaha

I concur. Steven says these books are literary porn, I think they're more like soap operas than anything. What with all the chin-tilting and all. lol.

And I haven't watched GH forever! I think I may have watched part of one episode since I've been here in Portage.
